The program offers intensive personal Psychological Rehabilitation as well as the treatment of co-morbidity, namely the existence of dependence accompanied by a mental disorder.
The therapeutic intervention includes two phases:
Physical Detoxification seeks to address the withdrawal symptoms that may occur when reducing or stopping regular use of heroin: sweating, restlessness, feeling sick, severe insomnia, hot flushes, muscle spasms, pain in muscles and joints, anxiety, increased body temperature and others. This is accomplished with pharmaceutical intervention with the use of buprenorphine and other medications.
Psychological Rehabilitation aims to strengthen the patient’s motivation and efforts to stay clean from heroin and prevent relapse. This is accomplished with psychotherapy intervention, personal counseling, and mobilization of the family system.
